Phonics

We have finished learning all of our Set 2 Sounds and will begin recapping these after the half term. This week we would like to focus on some of our Set 1 Special Friends; sounding, blending and writing. You will need a piece of paper and pencil or your Remote Learning Book. If there is a particular sound your child is struggling with, you can also use this time to continue to practice sounding, writing and blending using that sound.

Today's focus is 'ch'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEg3xvGstSE

Blending Book & Ditty Sheet Groups (Directed via Tapestry)

-Read Blending Book or Ditty Sheet.

-Continue to recap Set 1 Sounds using the Ruth Miskin (Read Write Inc) Phonics lessons released each day online. Each film will be available for 24 hours via the Ruth Miskin YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo7fbLgY2oA_cFCIg9GdxtQ

-Encourage your child to sit for the Word Time lessons for Set 1 Sounds.

(Most children should now be confident with Set 1 Sounds)

Continue to practice reading using the Grapple books. These will be placed on Tapestry each week. Read the story three times to allow for fluency, comprehension and prosody. Record reading in the children's Reading Diaries.

Red Ditty Book Group (Directed via Tapestry)

-Complete the RWI 'Complete a Sentence' activity. There is a video tutorial for the children available on the Tapestry post for today's Ditty.

Hampshire School Games

Complete a new challenge each day:

Allow your child to watch the video and join in with the activity.

Mr Evans' Challenge

-Let's do a study. Either plant a seed and as it grows, measure the height of your plant at different stages or take some blocks into your garden and measure a bulb that is starting to grow. I am going to measure the daffodils we planted in the Autumn term. How tall do you think it will grow? How many blocks?

-Show you child an object. Can they find an object that they think is shorter and one they think is taller? Get them to measure there objects by lining them up to prove they are taller and shorter. Model stem sentences to your child so can talk about their objects i.e. The bottle is taller than the__. The__ is shorter than the spade.

Spellings - Red Words

Today's focus is: so

As we would do in school, show and say the word to your child, then ask them to recall it to you. Encourage your child to use this word within their own sentence i.e. It is so cold.

As an extra challenge, ask your child to record the word in their Remote Learning Book, they could even complete a simple sentence written for them i.e. The tree is __ green.

Virtual Meet

Join us on Google Meet at 1.30pm. Where is Elmer? Let's find out about the next country Elmer visited on his travels! Invite will be posted on the Google Classroom Stream.

As a reminder:

1. Please make sure your child is in a shared living space, not their bedroom.

2. They will need to be dressed ready for learning.

3. Please ask them not to film or take pictures of the screen.

4. Please turn microphone off and camera on, the teacher will ask children to turn their microphones on when appropriate.

5. We ask a parent to be present with your child at the start of the call.
