 Autumn Term 1

 Happy to be me! 

Children will be learning:

To identify features about themselves that make them individuals

To know what a self-portrait is

To know that eyes are used to see and ears are used to hear

To name and identify body parts on humans and animals

To know that animals use their senses in different ways to us

To identify how we are similar and different

To know who is in their family and how families can differ

To know what belonging means

To know what a community is and identify the communities and groups they belong to.

Autumn Term 2

Come and join the celebration

Children will be learning:

Express their ideas and feelings about their experiences with celebrations

Listen attentively and respond to what they hear with relevant questions, comments and actions when being read to and during whole class discussions and small group interactions

Negotiate space and obstacles safely, with consideration for themselves and others

Move energetically, such as running, jumping, dancing, hopping, skipping and climbing

Hold a pencil effectively in preparation for fluent writing

Begin to show accuracy and care when drawing

Safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function

Share their creations, explaining the process they have used

Know that art can be found in different forms everywhere

Recognise and respect how celebrations look in different cultures.

 Understand some of the important processes and changes in the natural world around them

 Understand and use language related to the passing of time

 

 

Spring Term 1

 If you go down to the woods 

Children will be learning to:

Participate in small groups, class and one-to-one discussions, offering their own ideas, using recently introduced vocabulary

Demonstrate strength, balance and coordination when playing

Begin to show accuracy and care when drawing

Write simple phrases and sentences that can be read by others

Demonstrate understanding of what has been read to them by retelling stories and narratives using their own words and recently introduced vocabulary

Identify some similarities and differences between things in the past and now drawing on their experience and what has been read in class

Understand the past through settings, characters and events encountered in books read in class and storytelling

 

Spring Term 2

What on Earth

Children will be learning:

To know features of a variety of living things and be able to identify ways of taking care of them

To identify things that they consider to be ‘pretty’ and know that pretty things are not gender-related

To identify a range of things that are ‘big’ and make comparisons, identifying things that are larger than other things

To identify a range of things that are ‘small’, identifying things that are smaller than other things

To know what makes someone or something ‘old’ and identify ways in which we can reuse and recycle old things

To know what ‘new’ means

Summer Term 1

 Animal Crackers

Children will be learning to:

Share their creations, explaining the process used

Know what they are designing and making and say what its purpose is

Spell words by identifying sounds in them and representing the sounds with a letter or letters

Know that saying what you see is an important aspect of science

Identify a range of colours and simple art techniques e.g. printing, painting and drawing

Participate in class discussions, offering their own ideas, using recently introduced vocabulary

Express their ideas and feelings about their experiences using full sentences, including use of past, present and future tenses and making use of conjunctions, with modelling and support from their teacher

 Summer Term 2

Under the sea

Children will be learning to:

To know some key features of fish, such as their main body parts e.g. fins

To know that some fish live in freshwater and some live in salt water (the sea)

To know what makes a good friend (‘Rainbow Fish’)

To identify the differences between sharks, dolphins and whales

To know about sharks’ teeth and that, if a shark loses a tooth, it can keep growing new ones

To identify key features of crustaceans and know that they have shells to protect them

To know that crabs and lobsters are types of crustaceans
