Job/Person Summary
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, committed and energetic Caretaker for our happy and successful school. The ideal candidate will need to be hard working, dependable, able to use own initiative, have excellent communication skills and show flexibility in their approach to their duties. We have very high standards and expectations of the children and ourselves. We care about our school and believe that every person within it has an important role in achieving those high standards. This is a very important post to the school with a surprisingly big site to manage.
A range of practical and DIY skills are essential to ensure our school is safe and well maintained for our pupils and staff.
Responsibilities will largely focus on the maintenance of our school buildings and grounds, so applicants will need some level of maintenance/DIY skills as well as a practical knowledge of health and safety; experience of grounds or gardening work is desirable.
The successful applicant will also need to demonstrate that they can work without supervision as well as work as part of a busy team.
You will need to be able to work independently, as well as communicate effectively with members of the school community, and take responsibility for the school site, keeping the building safe, secure and clean. You must be willing to attend training and develop professional skills. The role includes the following;
- Supporting the safe and efficient running of the school
- Responsibility for site security, including some opening and closing of the school, as well as outside of normal school hours for school events if required
- As a key holder, attending emergency call outs where necessary
- Regular checking and record keeping of Health and Safety procedures, including fire safety, COSHH, legionella etc.
- Undertaking general DIY and repairs to the school, property and premises
- Liaising with other HCC departments and contractors and managing programmes of planned, reactive and preventative maintenance
- Monitoring the highest standards of cleanliness throughout the school, undertaking ad-hoc cleaning tasks as required and liaising with and supervising the cleaning staff
- Monitoring cleaning stock and ordering supplies.
The role requires someone with flexibility, good organisational skills and initiative, who is able to work as part of a team and who has a good sense of humour! You will have good practical skills and a strong awareness of safe working practices.
